April 5, 2008 – All Wainwright, All the Time

Today was my first game using my LaRussa Plan tickets (in the First Base Loge Boxes), and it was a great day for a ballgame. The Cardinals winning, and Adam Wainwright pitching well, made it even better.

Since Brendan Ryan and his shoulder licking are on the disabled list, I think my new favorite Cardinals player quirk has to be Brian Barton and his inability to keep his helmet on his head anytime he runs. Add that to his incredible speed and he’s a real fun player to watch. Today he added his first triple to his Major League resume.

April 1, 2008 – Opening Day, Take 2

If there was a positive about the first attempt at Opening Day being rained out, it was that I was able to go back to the new Champion’s Club for a second time and eat and drink for free again. I think I was able to get my money’s worth of hot dogs, nachos, Budweiser, and Coca-Cola over the course of both days.

I was sitting inside the club to stay out of the cold for as long as possible before the game started, and just happened to get up to throw something away right as Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt walked in the door. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to say “Hey Mr. Dewitt”, and he said hi to me, but didn’t seem interested in any further pleasantries.

As far as the game itself goes, it was a night of firsts for the new Cardinals, but unfortunately not the first win of the season.
