April 14, 2010 – Brad Penny’s Busch Debut

I was unable to attend the Cardinals’ home opener this season, so I took advantage of a half price ticket offer to get a seat near the field for game number two. It was Brad Penny’s first start at Busch Stadium as a member of the Cardinals, and he pitched very well, giving up only one unearned run in seven innings of work. The Cardinals won 2-1, with all of the offense coming in the first inning, to give Penny his first victory. It was a great night for a baseball game, and it felt good to be back in Busch Stadium at the start of a new season of Cardinals baseball.

July 18, 2009 – Haren Returns

Former Cardinal Danny Haren started the game for the Arizona Diamondbacks, in his first appearance against his old team. He pitched 8 innings and picked up the win against his former Memphis Redbirds teammate, Adam Wainwright.

Also of note was Mark DeRosa’s return to the lineup after a stint on the disabled list. Coincidentally, I was at both the game where DeRosa left with injury, and now at his return from that injury. Both times I was hoping to see his first hit as a Cardinal, and both times I was denied.
